Who we are
We are a non-governmental non-profit human rights organisation working on monitoring and detecting human rights violations in Syria and asylum countries by documenting violations, publishing reports, participating in transitional justice and engaging with UN mechanisms. Human Rights Guardians (HRG) strives for a Syrian society ruled by justice and freedom.
Founding: Human Rights Guardians was founded on the 1st of July 2014 in the city of Antakya, Türkiye. The organisation’s bylaws were adopted on the 7th of July 2014, and HRG kicked off its activities by creating a field documentation team in Syria. Today, HRG has a team operating in each of Idlib, Rural Idlib, Rural Homs, Rural Hama, Al-Qamishly and Rural Latakia, with two activists per governorate.
Human Rights Guardians also operates in Türkiye – in Gaziantep, Adana and Istanbul.

Our Mission
To defend the victims of human rights violations in Syria, especially when the right to freedom and life is threatened. Our priority was therefore to defend the forcibly disappeared and persons at risk of extrajudicial execution, torture and arbitrary detention.
Our Objectives

1. Monitor, detect and document human rights violations in Syria in compliance with international standards.

2. Disseminate and promote the culture of human rights, transitional justice and rule of law in Syrian society.

4. Combat impunity by building cases against the perpetrators of human rights violations in Syria, until such cases could be submitted to the courts handling the prosecution of perpetrators in Syria in the future.

5. Building alliances with human rights organisations and activists to exchange expertise and conduct more impactful human rights advocacy campaigns.

6. Share data and documentations with organisations working on justice and accountability.

7. Provide legal and moral support to the victims of human rights violations.

Founders
Lawyer Suleiman Issa
Lawyer and human rights activist since 2012. He worked as a consultant at the Human Dialogue Organization, a consultant at SIGA, and in the legal department of the Lawyers and Doctors in Human Rights Organization. He has twelve years of experience in human rights and humanitarian work.
Engineer Saad El Din Dakhil
Computer Engineer and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Human Rights Protectors Organization, with years of human rights and humanitarian work.
Lawyer Yasser Al-Sayed
A Syrian lawyer who worked for several years in the military judiciary in Syria and held several positions since 2011, including director of the Reyhanli Hospital for several years, head of the legal department in the OSOM organization, and chairman of the board of directors in the Lawyers and Doctors for Human Rights organization.
Lawyer Musa Amhan
Syrian lawyer and human rights activist with 12 years of experience in civil society organizations, including 8 years in monitoring and evaluation, and 5 years in program management.
Lawyer Amal Al-Nasan
A Syrian lawyer who worked in law for several years, then was a founding member of the Free Syrians Association, then worked as executive director of the Amal Organization for Advocacy and Recovery for several years.
Lawyer Ahmed Hassoun
A Syrian lawyer who worked in the legal profession in Syria for several years and is a founding member of the Free Syrian Lawyers Association and a founding member of Families for Truth and Justice and Amal Center for Advocacy and Recovery.
Lawyer Ahmed Jamjami
A Syrian lawyer who worked as a human rights activist and documented hundreds of cases of forcibly disappeared and missing persons. He worked in several human rights and humanitarian organizations for more than ten years.
Activist Baraa Barakat
A political science student and human rights activist who worked in the protection department of the Danish Refugee Council.
Dr. Yahya Rahal
A Syrian doctor who worked in several hospitals and medical and human rights organizations such as Lawyers and Doctors for Human Rights and SAMS. He is also a certified doctor in Lawyers and Doctors for Human Rights.
Lawyer Ali Al-Zeer
A Syrian lawyer who worked in the legal profession in Syria for several years and held several positions, including the legal office in Orient, executive director of the Lawyers and Doctors for Human Rights organization for five years, director of the transitional justice department in Lawyers and Doctors for Human Rights, legal advisor at the Day After Foundation, and trainer in international humanitarian law and international human rights law.

- Executive Director: Lawyer Suleiman Issa – Lawyer and human rights activist with years of work in several human rights and humanitarian organizations
- Program Officer: Bara’a Barakat – Human rights activist since 2014 and has worked with the Human Rights Protectors Organization since 2017. She has worked in documentation, data entry coordinator, field team officer, and project coordinator for several years.
- Human Resources: Hasina Mohammed, a university graduate and humanitarian activist – worked as a volunteer in the Rayhan Organization for 3 years and a data collector
- Financial Officer: Abdul Hadi Ibrahim, University graduate – Active in humanitarian work for years, worked as a volunteer in the Rayhan Organization since 2021
- Logistics: Beveren Rasoul is a humanitarian activist and volunteer with Rayhan Organization since 2022.
- Communication Officer: Latifa Zidane – University graduate with two years of humanitarian work. She has worked in the Human Rights Protectors Organization since 2017 as a volunteer.
- Field Team Leader: Lawyer Ahmed Jamjami, a lawyer who has been working for the Human Rights Defenders Organization in Syria since its establishment.
- Data Entry Coordinator: Yasmine Al-Atr – University graduate and humanitarian activist with two years of experience in humanitarian and human rights work
